18: Ranking concepts

Laundry basket

Req 1: The required size of a laundry basket will not become very stable when made of caña flecha alone.

Cri 1: The large size makes it more costly to ship

Cri 2: The size again makes it timely and costly to produce

Lampshades

The idea of creating lampshades scores the highest amount of points in every category as long as the size is kept relatively small. It fulfills a large need for light in the hostel: Both for volunteers and employees working there and also for the comfort of the guests.

Carpets

Req 1: Woven Caña flecha has many small holes which can collect dust and dirt. Furthermore the roughness makes it uncomfortable to walk on with bare feet.

Req 5: Since the hostel is a place where people go in and out it is also a place that easily gets dirty - see req 1.

Cri 1: The size makes it costly to ship.

Cri 2: The size again makes it timely and costly to produce

Wall decoration

Req 5: FEM agreed that the hostel needs wall decorations but these should show the work they doo more directly.

Cri 3: As a wall decoration the caña flecha becomes a passive object which gives it less purpose compared to other design possibilities.

Cri 4: We acknowledge that there is a trend of wall carpets in Denmark but it is not a widespread one.

Storage

Req 5: Hostel only needs a couple of items for their front desk to store pens and other office supplies.

Pots for plants

Req 1: Caña flecha is not solid and would therefore require glass, plastic or another solid material to keep in dirt and water.

Req 5: Pots for plants would be nice to have but not a necessity at the hostel.

Cri 1: Pots will be more complicated to ship when being constructed with other materials than caña flecha.
